Questions? We got You!
What breeds is the Power Breed Herding Ball suitable for?
The Power Breed Herding Ball is built specifically for high-drive working breeds like German Shepherds, Blue Heelers, Border Collies, Kelpies, Malinois, Rottweilers and Staffies. Basically any breed with strong herding instincts or a drive that never seems to switch off. If your dog has endless energy and needs more than a standard walk to burn it, this ball was made for them.
Is the ball actually chew-proof?
The outer shell is made from 2520D Ballistic Nylon which is one of the toughest fabric grades available, with reinforced double stitching and a heavy-duty double zipper. It's built to withstand nudging, chasing and herding. That said, it's designed to be herded and pushed around, not chewed on directly like a toy. If your dog is a dedicated chewer rather than a herder, we'd point you toward our TUFFJaw range instead. The herding ball is covered by a 30-Day Shell & Core Warranty - if it gives out within 30 days, send us a photo and your order number and we'll sort it.
How big is the ball and will it fit in my backyard?
The Power Breed Herding Ball is 55cm in diameter - big enough that your dog physically can't pick it up, which is exactly the point. It forces them to herd, nudge and chase it the way their instincts tell them to. You'll need a decent sized outdoor space to get the most out of it - a standard backyard works fine, but the bigger the space the better the workout for your dog.
Can my dog use it indoors?
Technically yes, but we'd recommend outdoor use for the best experience. The ball is 55cm in diameter and designed for dogs that move fast. Indoors can get a bit chaotic. It's tough enough to handle outdoor surfaces like grass, dirt and concrete without any issues, so the backyard is where it really shines.
TUFFNTAILS will not be held responsible for any furniture or other household items destroyed in the process if you let your dog use this indoors!
My Herding Ball is dirty - how do I clean it?
The Power Breed Herding Ball can be machine washed, but we strongly recommend hand washing to keep it in the best condition for as long as possible.
The easiest way to clean it is with a firm brush, warm water and mild soap - give it a good scrub, rinse it off and let it air dry. It handles dirt, mud and general outdoor grime without any issues.
If you do put it in the washing machine, be aware that repeated machine washing and especially machine drying will cause the 2520D Ballistic Nylon to slowly fray and break down over time. Once the material starts to deteriorate from machine washing or drying, this will void your warranty. So while it's possible, it's not something we'd recommend if you want it lasting as long as it should.
The short version - brush it by hand, let it air dry, and it'll go the distance.
What should I do after my dog's finished with the Herding Ball?
This is an important one. As soon as your dog is done with the Herding Ball, bring it indoors and deflate it slightly.
Here's why. The inner PVC ball expands in heat. If you leave the Herding Ball outside after use, especially on a hot Australian day - the sun and heat will cause the PVC ball inside to expand to the point where it puts serious internal pressure on the stitching. Left long enough, that pressure will tear it apart from the inside out. This will void your warranty.
The two rules after every use:
- Bring it indoors: never leave it outside in direct sun or heat after use
- Deflate it slightly: takes five seconds and protects the stitching from internal pressure buildup
If the ball gets wet during use, no problem - just deflate it slightly first, then let it air dry either indoors or in a shaded outdoor area. Never leave it in direct sunlight to dry.
Follow these two steps and your Herding Ball will go the distance. Ignore them and you're shortening its life significantly.
How much should I pump my Herding Ball up?
This is more important than most people realise - pump your Herding Ball up enough that the outer shell is firm and taut with no sagging.
Here's why this matters. If the ball is underinflated, the outer 2520D Ballistic Nylon shell will be loose and saggy and a saggy shell gives your dog something to grab onto with their teeth. Once they get a grip on loose material, it's only a matter of time before it's in shreds.
A properly inflated ball keeps the outer shell stretched tight, making it far harder for your dog to get their teeth into it and giving it the best chance of lasting as long as it should.
A few things to remember:
- Firm and taut = correct: no sagging, no loose material
- Underinflated = accessible: loose shell is an open invitation to chew
- This is not a chew toy: it's a herding ball. It's built to be chased, nudged and herded. If your dog is treating it like a chew toy, redirect them and check out our TUFFJaw range for dedicated chewing
Get the inflation right and you'll get the most out of it. Skimp on it and you're doing half the job.
