What's new in this batchYou spoke up and we listened
What we heard
A few customers made warranty claims after their dogs chewed the zipper hood. For power chewers it became a target, and some dogs eventually bit a hole through to the inner core.
What we did
We talked through every claim with the customers involved, then made the call: the zipper hood is gone from this batch, so it's no longer there for chewers to target.
Thank you to everyone who got in touch. You told us what wasn't working and we acted on it. This batch is built from your feedback.

We recommend the 55cm
Great for small to medium working breeds. Big enough that they can't pick it up, easy to push and herd.
We recommend the 65cm
Built for large, powerful dogs who need a bigger target to herd. Too big to pick up or carry.

Customer Reviews
Overall rating: 4.8 / 5 from 147 reviews.
This boy has managed to destroy multiple raised beds including other branded beds advertised as chew proof. We are 10 days in and still in one piece. He’s tried, there’s been attempts at digging and chewing, so far no luck and the novelty of destroying is reducing.
If you are on the fence, just buy it. My 3yr old Boxer has destroyed over 7 beds from cheap to high end. This one is great and even hold up to his jumping off it like a trampoline, when he does his stupid yard zoomies.
Got this for our Lenny's 1st birthday. We needed something Kelpie proof!! So far so good but he needs to supervised 🤣🤣 because he does try to get the zip!!
He is obsessed with his Herding ball and gets so excited when we bring it out for playtime!!
Wow, great set of toys! These are perfect for my American Staffy, Scout. After trying many different brands from local pet stores, it was nice to find a reliable Australian-owned brand online. I like how the set is a variety of play-based toys rather than just the same product in a different shape. Bruce the Shark has been our favourite so far!
We were excited to try out the Herding Ball with our American Staffy, Scout. Known for their chaotic energy, it might take a few tries to get him used to it but it definitely helped with making use of his daily energy! Will be recommending to our friends who have 'working' breeds.
Eva loves her Tuffntail herding ball ♥️
She has a lot of energy to burn and this really fulfils her need to run and chase in a safe environment.
It is giving me a workout as well.
Luna (Kelpie) simply loves this ball and will run and run with it. When you think she’s had enough, she’ll lie down, but if the ball is moved she’s up again and at it! Such a good investment to fulfill their herding instinct.
We love it!!
Really sturdy and a great size for our bigger dogs. They took to it straight away, and I love that it’s elevated, easy to clean and feels genuinely built to last.
Our 20 month old German shepherd girl loves this bed, yes she has tested it . This is by far the best dog bed I have purchased, and yes I have tried many different brands with my previous dogs
Willow and Lilah love their bed, it has been such a great purchase! We have had it for a few weeks now and as you can see in the photos - no holes! Thank you so much!
Definitely a new favourite in our house, I got this as a free gift so did not know the description, the giggle noise was a nice surprise as my dog Hades LOVES giggle toys
Exactly what I wanted in a bed, very sturdy and suitable for my 50kg boy, love the aluminium frame. Other elevated beds have only lasted us a few months and are just awful but I know this is going to last a long time. My boy isn’t much of a chewer but does like to dig in his bed, since getting his Tuffntails bed he has definitely tested its scratch proofing and it has passed ☺️. Highly recommend
Easily put together & seems strong & good quality. Arrived quick. We bought the largest size to grow into so haven’t come across the chewing stage yet to see how tuff it is! Fingers crossed.
Ordered two XL beds for our Husky X Velociraptor dogs. They were destroying their previous beds in a matter of days even with chilli oil rubbed on the weak points which had worked with previous dogs. I can hear them digging into the matting but have no concerns as the bed still looks like new. Very glad of the purchase.
The Tuffy bed is perfect for large and strong dogs! Our German shepherd has been through a few beds, so it’s great to finally find one that’s strong enough! Easy to clean and aesthetic too. We got the XL. Love it!
Being a 2 x german shorthaired pointer dog owner, we go through dog beds like no tomorrow. This bed is ABSOLUTELY ASTOUNDING with its strong anti break base, super easy to clean and looks aesthetic! Cant wait to continue using it!
My 7 month old puppy Rottweiler has absolutely loved the TuffNtails dinosaur collection. It's the only chew toy he carries around with him and looks for.
Our pup has been through 4 different elevated beds in 12 months.
I purchased the XL bed and he loves it!
He did try to eat it and realised he couldn’t so he is enjoying laying on it 😀
Store owner replied:
Lovely Diane! Two beautiful dogs. Thanks for your support.
I’m so glad we have found toys that last longer than 10 minutes. My teething puppy has absolutely loved chewing these toys. Very happy with our purchase.
This dog bed is made from strong, durable materials and has been smashed both indoors and outdoors without fault! Our dog loves it and we’re very happy with the quality and comfort it provides. Highly recommended for active pets!
What breeds is the Power Breed Herding Ball suitable for?
The Power Breed Herding Ball is built specifically for high-drive working breeds like German Shepherds, Blue Heelers, Border Collies, Kelpies, Malinois, Rottweilers and Staffies. Basically any breed with strong herding instincts or a drive that never seems to switch off. If your dog has endless energy and needs more than a standard walk to burn it, this ball was made for them.
Is the ball actually chew-proof?
The outer shell is made from 2520D Ballistic Nylon which is one of the toughest fabric grades available, with reinforced double stitching and a heavy-duty double zipper. It's built to withstand nudging, chasing and herding. That said, it's designed to be herded and pushed around, not chewed on directly like a toy. If your dog is a dedicated chewer rather than a herder, we'd point you toward our TUFFJaw range instead. The herding ball is covered by a 30-Day Shell & Core Warranty - if it gives out within 30 days, send us a photo and your order number and we'll sort it.
How big is the ball and will it fit in my backyard?
The Power Breed Herding Ball is 55cm in diameter - big enough that your dog physically can't pick it up, which is exactly the point. It forces them to herd, nudge and chase it the way their instincts tell them to. You'll need a decent sized outdoor space to get the most out of it - a standard backyard works fine, but the bigger the space the better the workout for your dog.
Can my dog use it indoors?
Technically yes, but we'd recommend outdoor use for the best experience. The ball is 55cm in diameter and designed for dogs that move fast. Indoors can get a bit chaotic. It's tough enough to handle outdoor surfaces like grass, dirt and concrete without any issues, so the backyard is where it really shines.
TUFFNTAILS will not be held responsible for any furniture or other household items destroyed in the process if you let your dog use this indoors!
My Herding Ball is dirty - how do I clean it?
The Power Breed Herding Ball can be machine washed, but we strongly recommend hand washing to keep it in the best condition for as long as possible.
The easiest way to clean it is with a firm brush, warm water and mild soap - give it a good scrub, rinse it off and let it air dry. It handles dirt, mud and general outdoor grime without any issues.
If you do put it in the washing machine, be aware that repeated machine washing and especially machine drying will cause the 2520D Ballistic Nylon to slowly fray and break down over time. Once the material starts to deteriorate from machine washing or drying, this will void your warranty. So while it's possible, it's not something we'd recommend if you want it lasting as long as it should.
The short version - brush it by hand, let it air dry, and it'll go the distance.
What should I do after my dog's finished with the Herding Ball?
This is an important one. As soon as your dog is done with the Herding Ball, bring it indoors and deflate it slightly.
Here's why. The inner PVC ball expands in heat. If you leave the Herding Ball outside after use, especially on a hot Australian day - the sun and heat will cause the PVC ball inside to expand to the point where it puts serious internal pressure on the stitching. Left long enough, that pressure will tear it apart from the inside out. This will void your warranty.
The two rules after every use:
Bring it indoors: never leave it outside in direct sun or heat after use
Deflate it slightly: takes five seconds and protects the stitching from internal pressure buildup
If the ball gets wet during use, no problem - just deflate it slightly first, then let it air dry either indoors or in a shaded outdoor area. Never leave it in direct sunlight to dry.
Follow these two steps and your Herding Ball will go the distance. Ignore them and you're shortening its life significantly.
How much should I pump my Herding Ball up?
This is more important than most people realise - pump your Herding Ball up enough that the outer shell is firm and taut with no sagging.
Here's why this matters. If the ball is underinflated, the outer 2520D Ballistic Nylon shell will be loose and saggy and a saggy shell gives your dog something to grab onto with their teeth. Once they get a grip on loose material, it's only a matter of time before it's in shreds.
A properly inflated ball keeps the outer shell stretched tight, making it far harder for your dog to get their teeth into it and giving it the best chance of lasting as long as it should.
A few things to remember:
Firm and taut = correct: no sagging, no loose material
Underinflated = accessible: loose shell is an open invitation to chew
This is not a chew toy: it's a herding ball. It's built to be chased, nudged and herded. If your dog is treating it like a chew toy, redirect them and check out our TUFFJaw range for dedicated chewing
Get the inflation right and you'll get the most out of it. Skimp on it and you're doing half the job.
